Submissions
General
Traces is an online literary journal publishing Canadian poetry, essays, reviews, and interviews.
We accept submissions from Canadians at home or abroad, contributors residing in Canada, or international writers engaging with Canadian culture, art, history, landscape, or experience.
We welcome simultaneous submissions. However, if your work is accepted elsewhere, we ask that you email us right away to withdraw your submission. We do not accept previously published work.
We accept original submissions in English. Translations are welcome with permission from the original author.

Submissions should be sent in .docx, .doc, or .pdf format. Do not paste your submission into the body of the email. Please include a brief bio in the body of your email and “Submission” in the subject line.

Poetry
All forms are welcome. We are especially fond of formal poetry and well-crafted free verse. Please send no more than three poems at a time.
Essays
We accept proposals, abstracts, and completed essays. Completed essays should be between 1000 and 3000 words.
We are especially interested in essays engaging with the following topics:
Critical or contemplative essays on Canadian art, literature, drama, architecture, history, etc.
Sacramental art, Church art, or theology/spirituality and the arts from Canadian perspectives.
The sacramental imagination.
The liberal arts & post-secondary education in Canada.
The connections between sacramental art and other disciplines, including sports, parenthood, ecology, finance, philosophy, Canadian culture, agriculture, education, different religious perspectives, etc.
Reviews & Interviews
We accept pitches for reviews and interviews.
We accept reviews of Canadian books (especially poetry) by Christian writers or writers whose work engages with faith in Canada. We will also accept reviews of books by non-Christians which might interest our readers. (500-2000 words)
We are interested in interviews with Canadian writers and artists whose work engages with faith. We are also open to interviews with professionals in other fields actively engaging with faith and the arts in Canada. (1000-3000 words)
